WINDHOFF, Germany, is a worldwide supplier of a broad range of high-tech products with focus on rail vehicles and railway and shunting technology.

Vehicle technology focuses on main lines, branch lines, commuter lines and metros. WINDHOFF rail vehicles are successfully used world-wide for the construction and maintenance of rail tracks and overhead catenary systems.

Railway depots around the world have selected WINDHOFF workshop equipment. Besides lifting jacks and complex lifting installations, work platforms, turntables, bogie measuring stands and traverses, WINDHOFF also provides full planning and system management services for major construction projects.

The shunting sector covers dedicated solutions for state or industrial railway operations, starting with simple rope winches, rope traction and shunting systems with slingchains as well as solutions with wheelset carts or buffer wagons. In addition customers can select from a range of rail-bound or Rail/Road shunters.

Battery powered Shunting Vehicle

The WINDHOFF RW60AEM with its 34 ton service weight generates a towing force of ca. 1,000 tons, sufficient for the handling of trains with 12 container wagons. The on-board battery provides ample energy for several working days. The highly efficient RW60AEM is used in 3-shift operations, arranging Warsteiner containers for world-wide shipping.

Underfloor Lifting Plant Bangkok, Thailand

WINDHOFF lifting plants (subfloor) for rail vehicles facilitate the lifting of multiple train consists. The complete lifting plant is placed below the workshop floor, and when lowered, there is an unobstructed working and traffic area. The train operator drives the train onto the lowered rail bridges and positions the vehicles as required. Safety devices are automatically activated (safety interlocks), and maintenance personnel can safely proceed with their work details under the raised train.

Mobile Wheelset Raotating Device

Wheelset rotating devices (RSD) are used for the turning of wheelsets at parked rail vehicles. This facilitates specific work details and expedites work routines where a wheelset must be rotated in a continuous manner.

New WINDHOFF subfloor lifting plant in the SBB maintenance depot in Olten

Following the extension of the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) maintenance depot in Olten, one of the most complex subfloor lifting plants of its kind has now entered operation.

If possible, the customer wanted to be able to maintain and lift all new regional transport multiple units and articulated sets with their different lengths and designs using this plant. In parallel, the customer also wanted to be able to lift smaller train sets at the same time to ensure the plant's maximum possible efficiency.

The result is so far unique throughout Europe. Complete 3- to 6-piece multiple units can now be processed as a whole on the new subfloor lifting plant from WINDHOFF. 16 rail lifters and 48 body lifters ensure flexible lifting of different vehicle types and lengths. The rail lifters are used to raise the complete train set, including the wheels. The body lifters support or move the wagon bodies of the connected vehicle. Individual or all bogies can be lowered and replaced with the wagon bodies supported. All body lifters offer continuous longitudinal adjustment, while the brackets are transversely adjustable. Besides precisely locating the required lifting positions, the challenge involved in this is to correctly actuate the implemented lifters and their combinations.

An accessible, 4.5-m deep installation pit ensures that the subfloor lifting plant can be easily serviced at any time. Stable, trailing pit covers seal the pit automatically, enabling work to be performed safely at all times.
